Magdalena Yesil

I loved learning about Magdalena Yesil. Quite frankly she blew my mind. She left Turkey as a 12 year old little girl and came to America. She really is the perfect example to everyone of the importance of being a life long learner. As I was researching about who she was I realized her estimated net worth is 319.13 million. That is more then Steve Jobs at the time of his death. But when talking about Yesil her net worth is not the story. It's about her Moxie or Chhutzpah. She was an honest person doing the best she could and learning everything she can. I love that about her!

Week 2 Stars and stepping stones & Randy Pausch's last lecture

My favorite quote this week is: “Every little trifle, for some reason, does seem incalculably important today, and when you say of a thing that 'nothing hangs on it,' it sounds like blasphemy. There's never any knowing—(how am I to put it?) —which of our actions, which of our idlenesses, won't have things hanging on it for ever.” _E.M Forster When I first read through this statement, I immediatly realized it was written for me. I am currently being pulled in many directions that all seem incalculably important. I made a list of what Trifles are sucking my time and what is truley important. It was shocking to me that most of my time goes to things that cant hang on for ever. I really enjoyed Randy Pausch's Last lecture. I loved how positive he was. I appreciated the fact that he was still celebrating life and teaching others how to live their best lives. I think Randy Pausch was able to accomplish his childhood dreams partly because of his family's su...

(07:47 mins,  "Gordon B Hinckley Building Dedication BYU Idaho Oct 2002" Transcript  (Links to an external site.) ) I really loved Gordon B Hinckley's candid remarks after the dedication of BYU Idaho. He started out by showing how much he loves the youth. At one point he says don't ever do a tawdry or mean or evil thing. I looked up the definition of Tawdry because I was not familiar with this word.  taw·dry /ˈtôdrē/ Learn to pronounce adjective showy but cheap and of poor quality. Understanding the the definition of Tawdry helped me see that all of his council was to encourage the students to be real and to understand that as sons and daughters of God, we have a divine destiny and responsibility to stand as examples to the world living and behaving with integrity in all things.  (03:04 mins,  "Do What You Love" Transcript  (Links to an external site.) ) I loved this video because it's so true. Sometimes we do things because we let others influence our c...
