Week 2 Stars and stepping stones & Randy Pausch's last lecture
My favorite quote this week is:
“Every little trifle, for some reason, does seem incalculably important today,
and when you say of a thing that 'nothing hangs on it,' it sounds like blasphemy.
There's never any knowing—(how am I to put it?) —which of our actions, which of our idlenesses,
won't have things hanging on it for ever.” _E.M Forster
When I first read through this statement, I immediatly realized it was written for me. I am currently being pulled in many directions that all seem incalculably important. I made a list of what Trifles are sucking my time and what is truley important. It was shocking to me that most of my time goes to things that cant hang on for ever.
I really enjoyed Randy Pausch's Last lecture. I loved how positive he was. I appreciated the fact that he was still celebrating life and teaching others how to live their best lives.
I think Randy Pausch was able to accomplish his childhood dreams partly because of his family's support of his dreams, but mostly because of Randy's tenacity. He litterally viewed Obsticles/ brick walls as part of the journey.
I think dreams are really important. It's easy to get sucked into the daily tasks and problems of life and forget to enjoy our lives.
One of my childhood dreams was to be a mermaid. Living in Southern California I litteraly lived in the pool. My hair was green all summer long from chlorene. I would hold my feet together like a fin and prettend I was swimming with dolphins, sharks ect. I have actually achieved this childhood dream! I became a sucba diver 28 years ago, and just like a mermaid I have been able to dive around the world. Last year I was even able to swim with penguins in the galapogus Islands. Litterally a childhood dream come true.
